ABOUT THIS MODEL

Description & specifications

Those are very good sd cases, but as an underwater and wildlife photographer I needed a rugged and weather resistant case, that can handle a splash into saltwater, heavy rain and dust, snow and so on, so with the inspiration from those stl?s I designed a new sd card case with this features: Thicker walls Thicker top and bottoms Grove for a O-Ring seal (fits a 40?3.5mm o-ring seal) Hole in the top for attathing a nylon rope for attatching a carabiner or whatever to I can attatch the case to my body or camera bag. slots for 6 SD cards and 2 Micro SD cards *Room in the top for some foam paddingFor best ruggedness print the top at 0.1mm resolution and the bottom with either 0.1mm resolution or as a dual process print where the print prints at 0.2mm up to the threading and 0.1mm from the start of the threading and up. Use 50% honeycomb infill. To make it rugged it is important to use a suitable type of plastic, I prefere PETG or PC. and print with like 6 outline shells, 6 bottom and top layers. To improve the ruggedness you can do post process where you spray the parts with a plastic filler spray (eg. Steel Plastic Spray), let it dry, sand it down with semi fine grit sandpaper (eg.180 grit) and repeat the process 1 or 2 more times, this glues the build lines togheter and fills any holes or cracks in the shell, and complete it with a spray paint of desired color. If you print this part with a plastic that shrinks/warps when cooling, or if your printer tolerance is not tuned, the sd/micro sd slots might be to thight, if so do not use the case, rescale it according to your printer and the plastic type you print with. The SD / micro SD cards should be easy to insert and remove from the slot. if the shrinkage is to much the cards can be stuck and in worst case the micro SD can snap in half. The tolerances in this model works fine for me printed with PETG on a Original Prusa I3 mk2SPrint SettingsPrinter Brand:PrusaPrinter:i3 MK2SRafts:NoSupports:NoResolution:0.1Infill:50%Post-PrintingIf you printed the version with a grove for a o-ring seal, place a 40?3.5mm o-ring into the grove. For better weather and shock resistance, follow the steps described in the descriptionHow I Designed ThisUsed Fusion 360 to design the part, printed by using Simplified3D.Credits:jboneng Rate this 3D modelDownload 3D modelsFileFile size Rugged_SD_Card_case1 MB
